ระบบของบาร์โค้ด

การติดบาร์โค้ดของสินค้านั้น ๆ โดยเฉพาะ นอกจากจะคำนึงถึงความสะดวกรวดเร็วในการทำงานขึ้นแล้ว ยังจะต้องคำนึงถึงการใช้มาตรฐานการกำหนดเลขหมายที่ได้รับการยอมรับจากทั่วโลกอีกด้วย



ปัจจุบันมาตรฐานที่นิยมใช้กันอย่างแพร่หลายทั่วโลก มีประมาณ 11 ระบบ


   1. UPC [Uniform Product Code] ใช้เมื่อปี พ.ศ. -2515 ในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาและแคนาดา แบ่งออกเป็น 4 ประเภท

• แบบย่อมี 8 หลัก หรือเรียก UPC-E ใช้กับสินค้าที่มีข้อมูลน้อย
• แบบมาตรฐานมี 12 หลัก หรือเรียก UPC-A ซึ่งเป็นแบบที่นิยมใช้อยู่ทั่วไป
• แบบเพิ่มตัวเลข 2 หลัก หรือเรียก UPC-A+2 ในกรณีที่ UPC-A เก็บข้อมูลไม่พอ
• แบบเพิ่มตัวเลข 5 หลัก หรือเรียก UPC-A+5 เพื่อเพิ่มข้อมูลให้มากขึ้น

   2. EAN [European Article Number] เริ่มใช้เมื่อปี พ.ศ.- 2519 แบ่งออกเป็น 4 ประเภท ดังนี้

• แบบย่อมี 8 หลัก หรือเรียก EAN-8 ใช้กับธุรกิจเล็ก มีข้อมูลไม่มาก
• แบบมาตรฐานมี 13 หลัก หรือเรียก EAN-13
• แบบเพิ่มตัวเลข 2 หลัก หรือเรียก EAN-13+12 เพื่อเพิ่มข้อมูล ถ้า EAN-13 บรรจุข้อมูลไม่หมด
• แบบเพิ่มตัวเลข 5 หลัก หรือเรียก EAN-13+5 เพื่อเพิ่มข้อมูลให้มากขึ้น

   3. CODE 39 เริ่มใช้ในปี พ.ศ.-2517 ในธุรกิจอุตสาหกรรมเป็นบาร์โค้ดระบบแรกที่ใช้รวมกับตัวอักษรได้ เก็บข้อมูลได้มาก 
   4. INTERLEAVE 1 of 5 หรือเรียกว่า ITF เป็นบาร์โค้ดตัวใหญ่ใช้กับหีบบรรจุสินค้า หรือเรียก Cass Code
   5. CODABAR ถูกพัฒนาขึ้นมาใช้กับธุรกิจเวชภัณฑ์ ในปี พ.ศ.-2515
   6. CODE 128 ได้ถูกพัฒนาขึ้นและยอมรับว่าได้ใช้เป็นทางการในสหรัฐอเมริกาเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2524 นิยมใช้ในวงการดีไซเนอร์และแฟชั่น ปัจจุบันกำลังเริ่มนิยมใช้ในสหรัฐอเมริกา
   7. CODE 93 ได้เริ่มพัฒนาขึ้นในปี พ.ศ.- 2525 ปัจจุบันเริ่มนิยมใช้ในวงการอุตสาหกรรม
   8. CODE 49 ได้เริ่มพัฒนาขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2530 โดยพัฒนาจาก CODE 39 ให้บรรจุข้อมูลได้มากขึ้น ในพื้นที่เท่าเดิม
   9. CODE 16k เหมาะสำหรับใช้กับอุตสาหกรรมผลิตสินค้าที่เล็กมาก มีพื้นที่ในการใสบาร์โค้ดน้อย เช่น อุปกรณ์อะไหล่ เครื่องไฟฟ้า
   10. ISSN / ISBN [International Standard Book Number] ใช้กับหนังสือ และนิตยสาร
   11. EAN / UCC 128 หรือ Shipping Container Code เป็นระบบใหม่ โดยการร่วมมือระหว่าง EAN ของยุโรป และ UCC ของสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยเอาระบบ EAN มาใช้ร่วมกับ CODE 128 เพื่อบอกรายละเอียดของสินค้ามากขึ้น เช่น วันเดือนปีที่ผลิต ครั้งที่ผลิต วันที่สั่งซื้อ มีกี่สี กี่ขนาด เป็นต้น
